Important Updates for Ellis Family Dentistry:

Addressing COVID-19 Concerns

Hello patients,


We are thrilled to announce that Ellis Family Dentistry is reopening on Wednesday, June 3rd to all patients! Thank you for your continued support during this time of closure due to COVID-19. The health and safety of our patients and staff remain our highest priority as we plan to reopen Ellis Family Dentistry for routine care.


Appointment times will be adjusted to limit the number of people in our office at any time and to allow for social distancing. Please be aware that even if you had an appointment previously scheduled in June or July, your appointment will likely be changed or rescheduled. An EFD staff member will reach out to you directly to confirm your appointment. We are also reaching out to reschedule appointments that were missed during our recent closure. Please be patient as we address the current backlog.


There is no penalty for canceling or rescheduling your appointment during this time. Please contact our office as soon as possible if you anticipate rescheduling your appointment to a later date. This will help our staff to fill any available appointments as efficiently as possible.


Ellis Family Dentistry is following all recommendations and guidelines outlined by the ADA, CDC, and OSHA to provide you with the safest dental care possible. Therefore, we have made some modifications to our daily procedures and you may see some changes when you come for your next appointment. For example:


  • All patients will be pre-screened via phone call when your appointment is confirmed. A temperature reading and in-person health assessment will also be given upon entering the facility.

  • Our waiting area is temporarily closed. Patients should wait in the car upon arriving for your appointment. Please call upon your arrival and our front desk staff will inform you of when you may enter our clinic.

  • We ask that all adults come to their appointment alone. There should be no companions or escorts with the patient unless the patient is a minor. In that case, we ask that only one adult accompany them to their appointment.

  • Patients are required to wear a mask upon entering our clinic. Please bring your own due to our limited supply of PPE.

  • We will give patients an alcohol-based sanitizer to disinfect hands upon entering the facility. There will also be hand sanitizer for patient use throughout the office.

  • We will provide all patients with an oral rinse of 1% hydrogen peroxide before any dental procedures.

  • You may notice the air temperature in the office is slightly lower than you are used to. A light jacket is recommended for your comfort. Other than a light jacket, it is recommended that you bring as few personal items as possible to your appointment.

  • The health and safety of our patients and staff remain our highest priority. There is an inherent risk when providing dental services due to the aerosols produced from the patient’s mouth. Ellis Family Dentistry is going above and beyond all recommended safety and protection guidelines to be able to continue providing safe dental services. Recent changes to our standard protocols include additional Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) worn by staff, Germ Guardian Air Purifiers in each room, and the use of hypochlorous foggers after each patient.  These changes are necessary to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. To continue providing the safest dental services possible, there is now a fee of $12.00 that is applied to all patient appointments.  You (the patient) are responsible for any portion of this fee not covered by your insurance company. 


We appreciate your patience and understanding as we implement these new protocols. We will communicate any changes via email and posts to our social media and webpages.


The safety of our patients and staff remains our highest priority. We are continuing to maximize our decontamination efforts so you can be assured of a safe dental visit. Dear EFD patients,

Our office will remain closed to all non-emergency appointments until at least the end of May. If you had an appointment scheduled in the month of May, your appointment has been canceled and will need to be rescheduled. Our staff will contact you to reschedule your appointment as soon as our office reopens.

We hope that you are all staying healthy during this time. We are continuing to share updates and recommendations from the ADA and state/federal authorities as new information becomes available.


Due to the statewide stay-at-home order by Governor Roy Cooper, our office will remain closed for all non-emergency appointments until at least April 30th. If you had an appointment scheduled during the month of April, your appointment has been canceled. Our staff will contact you to reschedule your appointment as soon as our office reopens.

Dear EFD patients,

We were just informed by the NC Dental Society of the following recommendation from the American Dental Association:



ADA Calls Upon Dentists to Postpone Elective Procedures

"In order for dentistry to do its part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the ADA recommends dentists nationwide postpone elective procedures for the next three weeks. Concentrating on emergency dental care will allow us to care for our emergency patient."


We will continue to share updates and recommendations from the ADA and state/federal authorities as new information becomes available. 

Due to the above recommendation from our governing board, we are canceling all hygiene appointments for at least 3 weeks. Our staff will contact you to reschedule your appointment. 

Restorative appointments will remain scheduled on a case by case basis. For the safety of our patients and staff, we will carefully evaluate our schedule and will reschedule appointments as necessary.

Ellis Family Dentistry is taking steps to protect both our patients and staff from the COVID-19 outbreak in our community. As dental professionals, we have always confronted the realities of infectious diseases and EFD has implemented the recommended guidelines that have made the public and profession safe. The true impact of a COVID-19 outbreak cannot be predicted. We are doing our part to help slow disease transmission and reduce the number of people who get sick.

Our preparedness plan includes protecting our staff and non-COVID-19 patients seeking dental care from infection.  It is important for us to continue to provide the appropriate level of dental care for our patients in a safe manner.  We are keeping up to date on the recommendations for preventing the spread of COVID-19 on CDC’s website.  We are also checking with the ADA, the American Dental Association, and the NC State Dental Board for their recommendations. 

We will provide updates about changes to our policies regarding appointments via email and postings on our social media and webpages.

Our patient policies will be as follows until further notice:

  • We are screening patients before their appointment with a phone call. We are rescheduling patients if they are in the at-risk populations, or if they or anyone in their home has any upper respiratory symptoms. We are also rescheduling patients if they or anyone in their home has a recent history of international travel or travel to areas with community spread of COVID-19.

  • We are eliminating patient penalties for appointment cancellations during this time of COVID-19 pandemic. We ask that you call to reschedule your appointment if any of the above apply to you or if you would like to postpone your appointment until this uncertain time has passed.

  • Patients should arrive on-time for their appointments, rather than early, to minimize the amount of time spent in the reception area. Seating has been rearranged to provide appropriate social distancing and there will be no magazines in the reception area at this time.

  • Our shared water cooler has been removed to minimize cross-contamination. We will dispense water in the reception area as needed.

  • We will include temperature readings as part of our routine assessment at the front desk prior to performing dental procedures. We will also dispense 1 squirt of hand sanitizer to each patient upon arrival.

  • We will have you rinse with 1% hydrogen peroxide once you are in the clinic chair before your dental procedure begins. Coronavirus is vulnerable to oxidation; this will reduce the salivary load of oral microbes.

  • We plan to close the playroom during this time and ask that all children stay with the parent in the main reception area. We will also remove our treasure box. Toys for children will be given by front desk personnel.

In addition to the above policy changes and standard precaution procedures, we will also be disinfecting common use areas such as reception and bathrooms, as well as light switches, doorknobs, etc. at least twice daily.
